Hullo! I am making this blog for EDTE 563. It is my microcomputers in education class.
Children in today's world have changed so much from when my parents were children and even from when I was first in elementary school. I remember being taught through lecture. Activities were physical. everything involved pen and paper, crayons and colored pencils, scissors. Today's student's aren't interested. Everything is too slow, too step by step. Students in this day and age are used to processing lots of information at the same time from multiple directions. lectures are too serious, too boring. I plan on making my learning hands-on. I will have mini lessons that consist of short instruction periods. The students will then have time to practice new concepts using games on the computer. My students will be able to have math competitions against children their age across the world. I want the students to be able to have a new age "pen pal" and to have conversations over skype. I want them to learn about the world first-hand in an interactive way. I would like tests to be taken on computers without internet. I want students to use paint and photoshop. i want them to be able to still use pens and pencils and crayons, but then be able to scan it into the computer and utilize it in many ways. I want them to be able to post their classwork on my website so that all their parents can access it.
This is my first step. I am going to try to get the teacher I am interning for to use it in her classroom. The link below is a game about compound words for the students to practice with.
